Green Printing and Cost-Saving Benefits with Remanufactured Inkjet Cartridges

-->
The printer is very useful gadget at homes, offices, businesses and almost at every place now. It is able to print reports, graphics, photographs, business projects, school papers and other important documents. Despite its extensive use and greater benefits, the printer is one of the major sources of electronic wastes in the world. The printer itself and its consumable parts, called printer cartridges, are adding to the high rate expansion of landfills all across the world. A survey reports states that about more than 400 million empty toner refills and inkjet cartridges are thrown away in landfills annually. It is estimated that in the coming years it would crossed over 500 millions of empty units dumping in the landfills recklessly. These increasing statistical figures are posing serious threat to environment as printer cartridges are non biodegradable, which means they will not easily decompose. It can take up to 500 to 1000 years before each cartridge will completely decompose. And within this long period of time, more numbers of cartridges will be added to landfills and existing landfills will become a huge heap of plastic wastes.

This is indeed a serious problem; fortunately, recycle can solve this issue by reducing the volume of spent cartridges discarded in landfills every year. Each empty unit can be sent for manufacturing unit for making it a usable cartridge called remanufactured cartridge. Laser printers as well as inkjet printers can both use remanufactured laser toner cartridges and remanufactured inkjet cartridges in their respective printers. These remanufactured units are also called the green printer units because they are basically made from recycled parts. Today, the market share of these products is extremely high as there are more increasing numbers of environmentally conscious consumers available in our society.

With inkjet cartridge recycling, greater amount of resources are being used, such as- plastic, natural oil, energy, and human labor. When empty inkjet cartridges are recycled instead of producing a brand new one, all the resources can be conserved. We can use the saved resources in other important products.

Apart from these, printer cartridge recycling will also benefit consumers economically. Remanufactured inkjet cartridges are less expensive than brand new cartridges. Thus, consumers can save up to 60-70% with remanufactured products. Businesses or individual users who want to cut their overall cost of operation should consider switching to remanufactured cartridges is they are investing a big amount on original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridges.
